Proper firing stance for Pistols?

I am currently deployed in the air force and they teach us the same thing with a pistol. To square up to the target (isosceles) so if we get hit it hits our plate/ body armor. Police have the same mentality with that. Although a lot of them still use the weaver stance. I also don't like shooting in the isosceles stance so I shoot in the weaver. That is a risk I guess I am willing to take. As for the preferred it is up to you. What one to you shoot better in.
